Over the last three decades we have built up experience and increasingly strong expertise in microbial genomics. BaseClear offers a complete range of microbial genomics services including: metagenomics, microbiome analysis and microbial strain characterisation for regulatory approval. We are the preferred partner for many leading brands in various industries such as pharma, cosmetics, food industry and animal health in The Netherlands, in Europe and beyond. We currently have approximately 65 employees and are proudly located in the heart of the Leiden Bio Science Park, the leading biomedical hotspot in Europe.
For our bioinformatics department we are looking for candidates for the position of:
You will be responsible for managing and performing projects where you will be working with Illumina, PacBio and Oxford Nanopore data to help clients answer their biological questions and achieve their goals. For this, we have a wide array of analysis pipelines like (meta)genome assemblers, taxonomic and functional profiling and many others. You will also work on improving these in-house pipelines and databases and create new products together with our product development team. You will work as a part of a highly motivated team of bioinformaticians and work together with knowledgeable scientists and technicians from other teams.
The bioinformatician is supervised by the Manager Bioinformatics and works closely with other departments within BaseClear to achieve the above goals.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly driven candidate with a “can-do” mentality who is willing to work fulltime and has the ability to work accurately and result-oriented under pressure of deadlines.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Bioinformatics with demonstrable bioinformatics, programming and DNA sequence analysis experience.
Preferably two years work experience in Bioinformatics.
Excellent knowledge of Python, Bash and in-depth knowledge of NGS technologies are essential.
Additional experience of microbial genomics, NextFlow, R, working on a HPC-system and an understanding of quality systems are of benefit.
The candidate should have a commercial attitude supported with good communication and presentation skills.
The potential candidate will be able to work well within a team as well as be able to coordinate individual projects.
Preferably living in the Leiden area.
We offer a challenging full-time (40-hour) position in a growing high-tech company, where you would work in a team and with a high degree of independence. The appointment is for a definitive period (12 months), with the possibility to extend into an indefinite period if the results are desirable.
